The definitive guide to female ejaculation

What is female ejaculation?

From ongoing stimulation – typically of the G-spot – a minority of women ejaculate a thin, watery fluid. It might be clear or slightly milky. Unlike urine, it usually tastes slightly sweet.
Ejaculate is contained in the glands of the urethral sponge (the G-spot). If the G-spot (or in some cases the clitoris) receives ongoing stimulation, the glands become full of fluid. This is not urine but it may have a similar smell when released. The fluid is expelled out the urethra by pelvic muscle contractions or when the glands overflow.
Women who ejaculate describe the sensation as intense and a huge release. Some squirt just before a G-spot orgasm, some during a G-spot orgasm, while in others ejaculation appears not to be connected to actual orgasm. Some women ejaculate from clitoral stimulation alone – yet G-spot massaging is usually the trigger for this release. For both men and women, orgasm and ejaculation are actually separate activities, though they are linked.

Do all women ejaculate?
There is a school of thought that all women produce the fluid and may or may not be aware of it. It could be confused with their vaginal lubrication, especially if only a small amount trickles out. If it gushes, it could be mistaken for urine. Some women may confuse the urge to ejaculate with a need to urinate, and so hold back. Without realizing it, they may flush the ejaculate out when they urinate after sex.

How to ejaculate
It may take a while to get it right – if at all – so you may want to attempt this alone, without any pressure:

  • Empty your bladder first so that you know the sensation to urinate is unlikely to stem from a full bladder.
  • Drink some water beforehand as a dehydrated body is less likely to release any precious liquid, including ejaculate.
  • As the ejaculate will flow out the urethra, you need to ensure that you are not blocking the urethral opening with any object (toy, penis, hand, etc.).
  • It goes without saying that it’s easier to ejaculate if you are really revved up sexually. Stimulate yourself with whatever gets your juices flowing (without being illegal or downright dangerous…).
  • You may find it helps to have an orgasm first, before attempting to ejaculate, as this warms you up and relaxes the pelvic muscles.
  • Because stimulation of the urethral sponge may resemble the need to urinate, some women hold back but you should in fact do the opposite – letting go often unleashes the ejaculate. (And if you do urinate slightly, is it really such a big issue?)
  • If the thought of a wet mess bothers you, place a towel underneath you or invest in a waterproof sheet – available from any baby shop. Alternatively, hop into a warm bath.
  • When the feeling arises, it may help to bear down with the pelvic muscles, as in childbirth. The fluid may be released just before or during orgasm – and it may seep out, gush or squirt quite a distance. Keep a towel handy as it may leave a large wet patch.
  • You could first practise a ‘dry run’ (or wet run) on a full bladder: massage your G-spot and when you are overwhelmed by the urge to urinate, let go. Then try it again on an empty bladder and when the same sensation arises, let go.

As with any sexual exploration, it is better not to set a goal of ejaculating as this might raise false hope and lead to disappointment. Rather, enjoy the pleasurable sensations of genital massaging and vary the stimulation to experience variety in sexual pleasure. It often takes a combination of different sensations, such as simultaneous G-spot and clitoral stimulation, to develop more intense orgasms. The more open to playful experimentation you are, the more likely you are to up the fun factor.
